Key Features 

 

  • A 43,000 gross square foot building housing administrative offices, classrooms, computer labs, and a 100-seat auditorium. 

  • LEED Silver criteria was implemented 

 

Geotechnical Challenges

 

  • Locally complex geotechnical conditions including fill and natural soil overlying bedrock

  • 15 foot elevation drop across building footprint made it difficult to resist lateral loads in the out-of-slope direction 

 

Innovative Solutions

 

  • A drilled displacement pile foundation system was used to help reduce potential lateral displacements

  • Light weight fill was used behind basement retaining wall to reduce lateral loads
